We support the cancer-sick, Ukrainian refugees and animals

Planet Head Day is an initiative which was born within the NASA mission New Horizons to Pluto in 2007. SAIL, in close partnership with Rotary Club Szczecin International and Szczecin University,  has adapted the yearly education and fundraising project to the environment in Poland. Teachers and pupils, along with Rotarians and our numerous local and international partners, collect donations for the cancer-sick with the help of "PlanetHeads", school competitions, charity education games like "Junior Astronauts" and related events. In total, Planet Head Day collected about 100 000 zł in donations.

Right at the start of the war in Ukraine, the SAIL community collected clothes, food and sanitary items for arriving refugees. Our pupils prepared also food for them. Soon after, we employed Ukrainian teachers and started daily arts and music workshops for Ukrainian children. Therefore, SAIL has taken over the library of an Ukrainian school until the end of the war. Together with the Academy of Arts and the Castle Opera we have conducted a series of charity concerts gaining more than 75000 zł in donations for Ukrainian pupils and students in Szczecin, Odessa and Lviv.

Apart from the two main community service targets, the SAIL community does not forget about other, not less urgent needs: Pupils of the upper classes repeatedly created candles and sold them for funding food for an animal shelter.
One of the major threats for our environment is the massive loss of biodiversity. Bees have become a victim of industrial agriculture and pesticides. Our school community created a safe habitat with a nest, shelter and food on our school ground for 400 solitary bees. Pupils experience to live with the harmless animals and to take responsibility for them.
