Why IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognized exam measuring English proficiency for work, study, or life in English-speaking environments. Over two million people take IELTS each year, and it is accepted by more than 12,500 organizations worldwide—including universities, employers, and government institutions—opening doors to academic, professional, and personal opportunities, as well as immigration.

IELTS evaluates speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills in under four hours, with a strong focus on real-world communication. In Poland, it is especially valued in international business sectors such as the rapidly growing offshore and onshore wind energy industry in Westpomerania, where English proficiency is essential.

The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities, renowned worldwide for setting the highest standards in English language education and assessment. As a co-creator of the IELTS exam (alongside IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English), the British Council brings over 75 years of expertise in English teaching and testing, supporting learners around the globe.

Which test is for me?

There are two versions, namely IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training.

IELTS Academic is designed for students who want to study at an English-speaking university or enter a profession that requires academic English. It tests Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking with tasks focused on academic skills such as analyzing data, understanding complex texts, and writing structured essays. It is the standard requirement for admission to universities and many professional bodies around the world.

IELTS General Training is aimed at people who need English for work, training programs below university level, or immigration to English-speaking countries. It also tests Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, but the tasks focus on practical, everyday English used in workplaces and daily life. It is the preferred test for most work-related and visa pathways, especially in countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

What awaits me on the day of the test?

Due to the duration of the tests and waiting time, it is advised to bring some snacks and soft drinks. Consider enough time for registration and preparation. Head towards the main entrance of the building.

The test site is easily reachable by public transport from the city and - for participants from outside Szczecin - from the railway station. As the tests usually happen on Saturdays, there are going to be a sufficient number of parking slots nearby.

Once entering the building, you will be welcomed, registered and guided by our friendly and experienced team (picture of the first test team in 2025 above). The tests will be conducted in two time windows, one for listening, reading and writing, one for speaking.
