In Poland, preschool education can begin as early as 2.5 years of age. We usually accept three-year-old children into the younger group, while the older group consists of children aged 4–5. Kindergarten is recommended but not compulsory.
Compulsory preschool education—our Reception Class (P1)—begins at age 6 at the latest. Although the Reception Year often functions as part of a primary school, preschool regulations still apply to many aspects of this class.
